One of the most revered scholars of religious studies, Huston Smith, once said, “We are born in mystery, we live in mystery, and we die in mystery.” No matter how intellectually gifted or spiritually awakened one is, no one has ever managed to conquer the mystery of being; our finite and temporal limitations preclude us from having such an ability. However, the fact that we do not have definitive answers does not follow that there are no definitive answers. Therefore, we should not surrender our quest for truth. The beauty of being human is the ability to ponder life’s most pulsating questions, such as: Does God exist? What is our origin? Why are we here? Is death final? How ought we live? God has introduced life into the cosmos, or life is nothing but a tragic cosmic accident. Why are we here? We are here for an objective purpose, or we are here for no purpose at all. Is death final? We exist after death, or we do not exist. We cannot exist and not exist at the same time. How ought we live? We either live in a universe with objective facts and moral duties, or there are no objective facts and moral duties. The former entails that we ought to live…
